We’re building a custom installation that captures live footage through GoPros and throws it back at you, transformed, on a wall-sized projection. You move, and a heightened version of you moves with you — not quietly, not subtly. Big and immediate, the moment you step in front of it.
A stack of OpenCV effects shapes the live feed. Ghosting trails that smear your motion across the wall, color that bends and drifts as you cross the room, saturation pushed until the whole frame glows, a vertical “time slit” that stitches different moments into a single image. At projection scale, none of it stays subtle — a small gesture becomes the size of the room.
It’s a custom build, top to bottom — capture, segmentation, effects, the operator’s control panel. Written from scratch, tuned to run in real time at 30fps.
A platform, not a piece
The part we’re most interested in is the scaffolding underneath. Every effect is a plug-in: drop a Python file into effects/, declare a few parameters, and it shows up in the control panel with auto-generated sliders, toggles, and color pickers. The piece isn’t frozen at v1 — we can keep adding to it without rewiring anything.
There’s a dark-themed operator console with a live preview, designed to feel like a backstage rig at an installation. Swap effects, tweak parameters live, save presets to config. Everything persists, so the room comes back online configured exactly the way it was last time.
